Sustainable, functional and high quality

Sustainable and fairly produced products are of great concern to us. No matter how sustainably a product is produced, its entire life cycle is reduced if the product has only a short life cycle and has to be replaced by a newly produced one.

That is why we develop high-quality products with a long life cycle. All BMS products are certified according to Standard-100 by OEKO-TEX® – Katergorie 1 and absolutely free of PFC.

Product development and products:

Our functional clothing is developed where children are on the move: in the woods, on the playground, in the garden and on the street. We observe exactly, what disturbs the children to feel well and move freely.

Contrary to the wasteful, short-lived “Fast Fashion” trends we do not produce constantly changing collections. BMS fashion from the world cultural heritage “Hamburger Speicherstadt” timeless in design, very hard-wearing, ideally matched to its use and therefore particularly durable.

Our colours are harmoniously matched and can be combined across collections and seasons. We select materials according to handle, appearance and above all functionality, always keeping an eye on the latest developments. We generally prefer uncomplicated fabrics that are washable, dirt and water repellent, dry quickly or have other practical advantages. We keep an eye on the environmental compatibility of all waterproof coatings and only use the polyurethane recommended by Grreanpeace.

BMS products last an average of 10 years. For children, the wardrobe lasts an average of three generations before it is discarded. The BMS value is reflected above all in the very high resale value. From our point of view, this is exactly where real sustainability begins. After all, what is more environmentally friendly than durable clothing? Nice side effect for the customer, it preserves also the own purse.

Manufacture:

Our suppliers are excluding owner led, small factories with good handicraft Know How. The partnerships are on a long-term basis and are based on good personal relations. The control of the production and the care of the contacts takes place by the management personally. Every two months we are on site for inspection. It is also interesting to note that 80% of our partner factories are run by women.

Our suppliers are committed to compliance with the Standard 100 by OEKO-TEX® – Category 1, which includes testing for legally prohibited and regulated substances as well as chemicals known to be harmful to health. In their entirety, the requirements go far beyond existing national laws.

The factories that produce for us:

  • Do not subcontract.
  • Adhere to theStandard-100 by OEKO-TEX® – category 1.
  • Have passed the BSCI audit. (BSCI stands for “Business Social Compliance Initiative” and is a platform for improving social standards in a global value chain. It offers companies a code of conduct that supports them in their efforts to build an ethical supply chain. This code is based on international contracts for the protection of workers’ rights.)
  • We are permanently controlled directly by us – so we are not dependent on statements by third parties.

Production conditions:

The observance of humane production conditions is particularly important to us, which is why all our suppliers commit themselves to a “code of conduct”. This is based on the guidelines of the International Labour Organisation (ILO). These guidelines include, among other things, working time limits, minimum wages, job security and a ban on child labour.

Control:

Every two months our management is in the factories to check compliance with our prescribed working conditions and our quality standards. This results on the one hand in the guarantee of our quality standards and on the other hand in the certainty that our ideas of fair trade and sustainability are consistently observed.
